Academic Advising
Advising is available to you even if you are not yet admitted to the University and have questions about returning to learning. The College's Information Center schedules advising appointments via phone or in person, and can provide you with registration assistance, financial aid information, and guidance on course selection. Call the Information Center at 612-624-4000 to set up an appointment.
Textbooks
CCE course textbooks can be found at the U of M bookstores. You can order them online or visit one of their locations. It is crucial to use the right textbook and edition specific to your course. If you prefer to use a different bookseller or library, be sure to find the correct edition as specified for your course.
If you want to buy and sell course textbooks from other students, you can do so through the University of Minnesota Textbook Exchange. It's easy and it's free to all U of M students. U of M Bookstores also has a book rental program (as does the Dinkydome's Student Bookstore). The rental fee for students is about one-third the cost of a new textbook, but the student has to return it after the semester is completed. For some courses, the bookstore also offers e-books which are significantly less expensive.
Staying Connected at the University of Minnesota
All registered students receive a University of Minnesota e-mail/Internet account. This account is the University’s official means of communicating with you and also enables you to access many University resources, including your student records, UM Pay (the online tuition payment system), online course(s), Gmail, grades and transcripts, and more.
The University will send all important official notices to you at your University-provided e-mail account. You will need to use your account to access your online tuition statement.
