Summer Cultural Programs
Summer Cultural Programs enliven the campus community during the summer months by providing a variety of cultural arts programming on both the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses.
The cornerstone of the program, a lunchtime series of musical concerts on Northrop Plaza, harks back to the 1950s when the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra agreed to provide mini-concerts in exchange for reduced rent in Northrop. It has since that time evolved into a popular series of about 25 concerts featuring a wide variety of musical genres and performers.
Summer Cultural Programs is administered by the Department of Concerts and Lectures. The program is funded through the Student Services Fees assessed to admitted students who register for a total of three or more Summer Term credits. A Student Advisory Committee works with the Department of Concerts and Lectures to develop and present the funding proposal to the Student Services Fees Committee, to make final budget and programming decisions, and to evaluate the concerts and provide feedback.
Summer Cultural Programs Grant Information
Grants will be made available for campus organizations sponsoring cultural arts events on any of the Twin Cities campuses during Summer Term. This includes arts programming in the fields of music, film, theater, visual arts, and dance. Organizations that receive funding from Student Services Fees are not eligible to apply. The amount of each grant depends on the organization's need and the availability of funds, although grants usually range from $200-$1,500.
Free Noontime Concerts
Summer Cultural Programs offers free noontime concerts on the East Bank campus at Northrop Mall and on the St. Paul campus at the St. Paul Student Center.
