Degree Requirements
To earn the Master of Liberal Studies diploma, students must complete at least 30 credits (approximately 10 courses or seminars; see grid below), including an introductory seminar, nine credits of interdisciplinary Liberal Studies seminars (LS 5100 or LS 5950), 15 credits of elective courses, and the final project seminar.
The MLS program can be completed in approximately three and one-half years by taking one three-credit offering per semester, including summer. Semesters are 15-week terms, but we also offer two-credit seminars that run for seven weeks.
Students may take more than one course per term, and a student has up to seven years to complete a master's degree at the U of M.
Students who wish to transfer graduate-level course work from other institutions may do so; ask the MLS office for more information and assistance.
