I've Registered, Now What?
Once you’ve registered, there are three essential things to do:
- INITIATE YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT
- MAINTAIN SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS
- ATTEND THE FIRST CLASS MEETING
- The College of Continuing Education is your first source for advice and information.
1. INITIATE YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT
Everyone taking a credit course is assigned a U of M e-mail account and provided with access to the Internet. Check your U of M e-mail account regularly. This is the University’s official means of communicating with you. Notifications about your registration including class changes, billing, other important information will be sent to this account. You are responsible for all information sent to your U of M e-mail account; therefore, initiate your account as soon as possible after you register. If you have problems, call the Help Line at 612- 301-4357.
If you choose to forward your U of M e-mail to another e-mail address, please note that bulk U of M e-mail is sometimes blocked by other e-mail providers. You are responsible for all information sent to your University-assigned e-mail address, including attachments.
2. MAINTAIN SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS
All students at the University are expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress. Your term and cumulative grade point averages (GPAs) will be reviewed following fall and spring semesters.
- A student will be placed on probation if either the term or the cumulative grade point average (GPA) is below 2.0.
- A student remains on probation until both the term and the cumulative GPA is 2.0 or above.
- A student remains on probation if the term GPA is below 2.0, even if the cumulative GPA is above 2.0.
- A student on probation will be suspended from access to registration if their cumulative GPA is or goes below 2.0 and if their GPA for the term being reviewed is below 2.0.
3. ATTEND FIRST CLASS MEETING
University policy requires attendance at the first meeting of every course. If you miss the first class meeting, the instructor has the right to give your seat away to another student unless you have made prior arrangements with the instructor. If the instructor gives your seat away, you will need to FORMALLY CANCEL your registration for that course at One Stop; this will not be done for you automatically.
