Degree Requirements and Courses

To earn a Master of Professional Studies degree in Arts and Cultural Leadership, you must complete a minimum of 30 credits. 

Learning Goals

By the end of the program, students will be knowledgeable in:

  • Critical and strategic thinking, and effective communication
  • The intersection, navigation, and impact of cultural and creative practices within local and global dynamics
  • Policy formation, implementation, and application relevant to culture, creativity, and the arts
  • Leadership practices in a variety of contexts
  • How to implement expertise, improve relationships, and optimize resources

Completing the Degree

To remain in good standing, a 3.0 cumulative GPA for all degree course work must be maintained. You may take one or more courses per term, and you have up to five years to complete this master's degree.

Working with an adviser, you'll select courses from academic departments across the University of Minnesota, forming a specialization in an area of interest. Courses should relate to the professional tasks required of arts and cultural leaders or enhance your understanding of the arts within a broader cultural context. Studio or applied courses, such as courses in painting or piano, may not be included.
