CCE: Where are you from?
TV: New Brighton, Minnesota. Irondale High School...Go Knights!
CCE: What were you doing prior to coming to CCE?
TV: I was a chemical and mental health counselor at Boynton Health. Prior to this I worked in a number of Substance Use Disorder treatment facilities including in-patient, out-patient, residential, detox, and methadone maintenance treatment.
CCE: What drew you to the ADDC and IBH degree programs?
TV: The program's innovative cross section of mental health and addiction in an applied knowledge format is a large pull for me.
CCE: What do you think about the state of counseling today?
TV: It is a fast paced, dynamic field with exciting challenges and shifts in the paradigm of thought around addiction/mental health. Ultimately, my professional motivation comes down to changing the conversation around addiction and mental health. I strive to explore, apply, and challenge some of the knowledge that we hold in this field. In doing so, I hope to ignite a similar passion in students along the way.
CCE: Has there been something (a book, experience, person, etc.) that has inspired you professionally?
A number of mentors I have had the fortune to meet and collaborate with throughout my academic and work experiences.
CCE: What do you like to do in your spare time?
TV: Hanging out with my seven-month-old has left me with very little spare time, but when I can squeeze in a few minutes I try to catch up on the latest podcast. I'm an avid fan of Invisibilia, Planet Money, Dinner Party Download, This American Life, Radiolab, and the Moth to name a few.
