Construction and Facility Management Student Association
The Construction and Facility Management Student Association supports and enhances the construction and facility management programs, and its core mission is to provide a base for student involvement in campus and community activities. Members can participate in industry-related activities, help current students by mentoring or tutoring, and be involved with other campus groups. Membership is open to any U of M student, regardless of college, who has an interest in construction or facility management.
A Facebook page has been built for this group. The group and page are “closed,” meaning that members must be approved by the group’s administrator, and only members can see all content. Please feel free to request membership if you are interested in joining the group. You may email the CFMSA at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Construction Management LinkedIn Site
A LinkedIn site for the Construction Management program and all interested stakeholders has been created. Students are cordially invited to join and participate.
Writing Enriched Curriculum
The Construction Management program is one of 45 instructional units approved for participation in the U of M Writing Enriched Curriculum. Our curriculum now offers a comprehensive answer to the question “What does effective written communication look like in construction management?” The types of writing include proposals, argumentation, professional contracts, design specifications, business communications, and more. No new courses were developed; instead, WEC supports a “writing-infused curriculum.” Each course syllabus now contains writing assignments specifically oriented to the WEC objectives. We have also developed a “Construction Management Student Writing Style Guide,” which will be made available on the Moodle site of each course, along with instructional videos. The entire WEC process is described by its developers in an article in the International Journal of Construction Education and Research.
