Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be enrolled in a certificate program to take one of the classes?
No. Some people may decide to focus their professional development on a particular course or may not be ready to enroll in a certificate program. If you decide you want to enroll at a later date, individual courses you have completed may count toward a certificate.
Why not just take individual courses instead of a certificate program?
Certificate programs can be completed in a relatively short period of time. You walk away with skills you can use immediately, gain a focused, comprehensive educational experience, and obtain proof of concentrated study.
If I am unemployed, how do I seek funding to take your courses?
All of our courses are approved as certified training programs by the Federal Workforce Investment Act. More information about finding the right course(s) to match your employment goals visit our WIA Certified Programs Web page.
Do I have to purchase additional materials for any of these courses?
No. We provide all the materials and books you need for class.
Where do I park?
What are my options for lunch?
All full-day courses held at Continuing Education and Conference Center include a continental breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks. Optional service may be available at other locations and times.
Why should my company pay for me to attend?
Although you might understand the benefits of the course that interests you, your manager may not. To be most effective in justifying attending, you need to articulate the connection between your organization and what you will learn. Here are some things to consider:
- Focus on what you will specifically bring back to the organization as return for the investment
- Link what you will learn to a challenge or need your organization is experiencing
- Offer to prepare and deliver a short presentation and Q & A to your colleagues to share what you learned (that way others in your unit will get the benefits of your attendance, too)
- Be ready with a plan that shows who will cover for you while you are attending the course
What is a certificate?
Certificates are a cluster of courses in a particular area. You learn practical, up-to-the-moment skills and information for job improvement or advancement. Earning a certificate can make the difference between career promotion and stagnation.
Why should I complete a certificate program?
- Position yourself for a promotion in your current job
- Make yourself more marketable for other career options
- Learn practical new knowledge and skills
- Network with others
- Complement a formal course of academic study with practical training
- Gain credentials to advance in your career
Select a certificate you are interested in from our certificate website and select the certificate program you wish to enroll in. Once on the individual certificate Web page click the "Enroll now" button at the top of the page and follow the instructions.
Is there a fee to enroll in a certificate program?
No. Enrollment in a certificate program is free of charge, and you will receive a 5% discount on all certificate courses.
What is an individual discount?
An individual discount allows you to complete a certificate at a discounted cost by signing up for all courses in one transaction.
