Now in its 25th year, the Split Rock Arts Program is comprised of two entities: Summer Workshops and Online Mentoring for Writers, both of which offer intensive learning opportunities with outstanding faculty from throughout the world.

SUMMER WORKSHOPS
Workshops in creative writing, visual art, and design, take place each summer on the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus, which is located in the heart of one of the most culturally vibrant metropolitan areas in the country.

Split Rock also offers retreats at the University’s Cloquet Forestry Center in northern Minnesota. Both locations are popular destinations because of Split Rock’s promise of intensive study with outstanding artists and writers from throughout the world.

All workshops allow for significant one-to-one contact between participant and instructor. Away from the demands of daily life, participants revel in having the time and space to explore art without interruption in one of two unique environments, both of which foster hands-on learning and supportive artists’ communities.

Graduate/undergraduate credit, accommodations, and scholarships are available.

ONLINE MENTORING FOR WRITERS
All writers, beginning, intermediate, or advanced, need constructive criticsm on work in progress, whether it's getting through a first draft or readying a manuscript for publication.

This unique progam connects writers with mentors to provide individually tailored assistance with literary fiction, poetry, or nonfiction projects of any size or scope.  The primary goal is to help you strengthen and sustain your writing as you work, one-on-one, with a renowned, practicing writer and teacher of writing.

Because mentoring takes place online, you can work from the convenience of your home or office (or laptop location!), and in flexible time frame that suits your schedule.

The program's outstanding mentors are selected from the 150-plus writers who have taught Split Rock workshops at some point in the program's 25-year history.
