Housing Reservation Form
How to Reserve Housing Split Rock offers excellent housing accomodations for participants who want to stay on campus. Twin Cities residents need not live on campus in order to have a satisfying experience at Split Rock, but may stay on campus if they wish.
You are encouraged to reserve housing no later than two weeks before your workshop begins. If you plan to stay on campus, you must have a confirmed housing reservation when you arrive at Split Rock. On-campus housing may not be reserved after you arrive. Reservations are accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you reserve housing at the same time you register online, Split Rock will automatically reserve your housing for the dates of your workshop. To reserve housing at a later date (after you have registered online), please call, fax, or send your form to the Split Rock office.
To reserve housing by phone using a credit card, call 612-625-1976.
To reserve housing by fax, send your completed housing form and credit card information to 612-624-6210.
To reserve housing by mail, send your completed housing form, along with payment or credit card information, to: Split Rock Arts Program, University of Minnesota, 360 Coffey Hall, 1420 Eckles Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55108-6084.
Split Rock will send a confirmation upon receipt of your reservation.
Roommates If you are attending Split Rock with another participant and would like to room together in the Twin cities or share a cabin room at the Cloquet Forestry Center, please list your roommate's name on the housing reservation form. If you reserve housing online, you will be prompted to enter the name of your roommate.
Wheelchair Accessibility There are rooms in the Twin Cities and at the Cloquet Forestry Center that are equipped to accommodate people in wheelchairs. Ramps and elevators allow access to Split Rock conference rooms and other Twin Cities campus and Forestry Center facilities. People who have specific questions about wheelchair accessibility should call the Split Rock office at 612-625-1976.
Twin Cities Campus Split Rock offers on-campus accommodations at Mark G. Yudof Hall, the University’s premiere residence hall. Located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, Yudof Hall is steps from the Weisman Art Museum and Coffman Memorial Union, where creative writing workshops are held, and where the campus shuttle stops every 15 minutes to transport people to and from McNeal Hall, the site of visual art and design studios. Yudof Hall is also located near the Comstock Hall Dining Center, convenience stores, as well as the numerous restaurants, pubs, and cafés for which the Minneapolis campus is known.
Reserved for adult academic and conference groups, the building’s only permanent residents are graduate students. The building is air-conditioned, has laundry facilities on every floor, and elevator service to all suites and common areas, including the Club Room, where participants may gather to work or socialize. Residents also enjoy 24-hour access to the building’s Mac- and PC-equipped computer lab.
Suites at Yudof Hall feature private bedrooms with a small kitchenette and a separate door to the main hallway. This allows for complete privacy when sleeping and eating. Kitchenettes have a sing and mirror, two-burner cooktop, microwave oven, and small refrigerator. No pots, pans, dishes, or utensils are provided. A shared bathroom (toilet and shower-no tub), accessed from your suite, is shared with an adjoining suite. Blankets, linens, and towels are provided.
Check in begins at Noon on Sunday. Checkout is no later than 11 a.m. on Saturday (or Thursday, for Split Rock Shorts).
Cost is $426 for weeklong workshops (six nights) or $284 for Split Rock Shorts (four nights). Price includes breakfast at Comstock Hall (located next door to Yudof Hall) Monday through Saturday (weeklong workshops) and Monday through Thursday (Split Rock Shorts).
If you are attending Split Rock with another participant and would like to room together, please see Roommates.
Saturday Night Stays Participants whose flight schedules require them to arrive in the Twin Cities on the Saturday before their workshop begins, may reserve an additional night’s accommodation at Yudof Hall ($71) for the Saturday before their workshop begins. Participants may not stay at Yudof Hall on the Saturday (or Thursday, for Split Rock Shorts) their workshop ends.

In order to nurture community during the retreat, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the Dining Hall. The food is fresh, healthy, delicious, and varied. On Sunday evening, dinner is served after a late-afternoon orientation. On Wednesday evening, participants are on their own to go, either as a group or independently, to Cloquet or Duluth for dinner. Friday evening features a special closing dinner.
