Employer Tuition Benefits: Talk with your employer. The U of M offers a Regents Scholarship to its eligible employees.

Senior Citizen Education Program (SCEP)

Please note that financial aid is limited for students pursuing a second undergraduate degree. Extended Term (nine-month) Online and Distance Learning (ODL) courses do not count toward financial aid, with two exceptions: the Minnesota State Grant and the Minnesota GI Bill allow all ODL courses you are enrolled in during the first two weeks of the semester to be counted.

Credit certificate students are not eligible for federal financial aid. However, some aid types may require students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Noncredit Students

Financial aid options are limited for students taking noncredit courses. Prospective Boot Camp students should talk to their admission advisor about possible financial options, including discounts and/or scholarships specific to Boot Camps. There is, however, limited funding available for CCAPS Professional Development programs and certificates for those with financial need.

Scholarships (options are limited for noncredit students and do not include Boot Camps)

Registration Discounts: Refer to your program or course site. Many programs offer a University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA) member discount or a registration discount for individuals or employers enrolling in multiple courses.

Employer Funding: Talk with your employer. The U of M offers a discount for its employees for most noncredit courses.

Tax Benefits: Lifetime Learning Tax Credit and deductions

Nondegree/Guest Students

Nondegree students are not typically eligible for federal financial aid. However, students taking specific prerequisites required for admission to a degree program may be eligible for federal loans and can look into the prerequisite course work certification form.

Types of Aid Available

Scholarships (search tool can be used if registration is active; options are more limited for nondegree students)

Non-University scholarships (refer to additional scholarship search resources)

Private Loans: Discuss nonadmitted (nondegree) student status with private lender before completing an application.
